Who is behind Crimson stories?
I am Tommiea Jackson, a daughter of the Mississippi Delta. This land—with all its beauty and complexity—has truly shaped me. I’ve lived in bigger cities, but my heart always called me home.
People often say I’m a family person. What they really mean is I love my people—all of them. My people are more than just my biological relatives; they are my chosen family: my friends, classmates, fellow church members, trusted colleagues, and my sorority sisters. I’m open, curious, and genuinely fascinated by every story I hear. Whether it’s family, community, or a client, I want people to feel seen, valued, and understood.
The importance of stories was first imprinted on me in my parents’ kitchen, listening to my maternal uncle Sammy. I’d sit as close as I could to hear his deep voice rise and fall, imitating the characters in his captivating tales, punctuated by shared laughter. Oh, how I miss that laugh. I also heard my parents and grandparents tell stories about times long past. Their lives were different but full; they helped me to know who I am and from whom I come.
My career has taken me through many roles. Journalism and public relations gave me the courage to ask crucial questions, get answers and shape impactful messages for a variety of audiences. Teaching showed me the many ways people need to receive information to retain it. Photography taught me the power of capturing a moment that lives on. Every piece has led me here—to Crimson Stories where stories are preserved, treasured and shared.
